Phaethon, also called the Red Elephant, is a gas giant. It is the largest, and is thought to be the oldest, planet in the Solar System.

A strage seasonal phenomenon in the space around Phaethon is the only source of anemones, unusual artefacts which enable the only known method of faster-than-light travel.

The system is not inhabited by humans, though there is continued speculation that other life might exist on one of its many moons.

Red Elephant Disease refers to a general sense of malaise, as well as a variety of other health problems, reported by people who have been in the Phaethon system for an extended period of time. The extent to which there is evidence of this as an actual medical condition is disputed.
